Today’s “Featured Artist and Song of the Day” showcases Portland, Oregon’s own, Blind Pilot, with their song, “New York,” off their album, We Are The Tide, through Expunge Records.  The album was released in September of 2011, and their song, “Half Moon,” was the #1 song on The Troubadour’s Road Top 25 songs of 2011.  The band just began their summer concert tour, and it is off to a terrific start.  They just played the Sasquatch Music Festival in George, Washington, are set to play a sold-out show at Red Butte Garden Amphitheater in Salt Lake City tonight, and then are Colorado bound, playing the famed, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, on Tuesday, May 29th,  in what will be one of the best shows of the summer.  The line-up includes Blind Pilot, The Head and the Heart, and The Shins.  Line-ups like that are a rarity, and it will truly be a special night in Morrison.

The band consists of Israel Nebeker (vocals, guitar), Ryan Dobrowski (drums),  Luke Ydstie (upright bass, backing vocals), Kati Claborn (banjo, dulcimer, backing vocals), Ian Krist (vibraphones) and Dave Jorgensen (keyboards, trumpet).  This band is one of the best around, with live-shows that are must-see.  The show at Red Rocks is currently sold-out, but they’ll be back in Colorado in August, playing  in Telluride, at the Sheridan Opera House, on August 9th, play in Boulder, at the Chautauqua Auditorium, on August 11th, and peform at the Mishawaka Amphitheater in Bellvue, August 12th.  Be sure to check out their tour dates, and get to a show.

These words find their place in the song, “New York,”

“I hear the train all night
Sound of it’s wind blowing through our subtle lives
And I have a job to do walking these cars
Walking all asleep to get to you
But I don’t feel your stir beside me
And you’re not in my morning hour

Some ties are made to break
Some stalks grow high and green to run away
And feel the wake

And these lines tell the truth
These city veins answer all you do
So could you keep me in the pulses
Could you keep me in the sound…”
