The Troubadour’s Road is pleased to present guest selection week on the website. Nominations have been coming in from throughout the world, and five have been selected to run from June 25-June 29. The Troubadour’s Road thanks everyone for your submissions, and plans to do the series again soon. The first guest pick comes from Kenny Townsend of London, England. Jacko Hooper was on our list to be featured soon, so it was great to see the email from Townsend enabling him to be featured even sooner. Thank you, Kenny, for a great selection.
Today’s guest pick by Kenny Townsend for the “Featured Artist and Song of the Day” showcases Brighton, England’s own, Jacko Hooper, with his song, “You Are The Forest,” off his From Home EP, which was self-released on March 31, 2012. He has shows in Brighton coming up soon, playing The Fiddlers Elbom on June 28th, The Pull and Pump on July 25th, and then heads to London to play the Bedroom Bar on August 2nd. Be sure to check out the talented singer/songwriter as he takes on the troubadour’s road.
When talking about Hooper, Townsend said, “Jacko Hooper is from Brighton, UK and has charmed the city with his soulful/folk style. He has been compared to fellow countrymen, Ben Howard and Benjamin Francis Leftwich, which can do him no harm in the slightest. The reasons why I have chosen this artist are firstly, he is clearly a gifted songwriter. With each song the words inhabit you and you become embraced by his storytelling ability. This is only enhanced with his simple sounding yet intricate guitar melodies to accompany the songs. I managed to see him perform to a small audience in Brighton recently and he managed to captivate a crowded room to the point were it fell silent, everybody clinging onto the words delivered. He recently released a five track EP entitled ‘From Home’ and it is just fantastic.
These words begin the song, “You Are The Forest,”
“These trees are bent and torn
The veins of their core
Are ripped out and tangled across the floor
The harsh side of nature
To which i adore
Taking comfort from the thorns
So say what you need
I’m not here to think
Say what you feel
And i will watch you sleep
For one last time…”
