‘Featured Artist,’ Zach Sobiech, “Clouds”

Life is fragile, with such a fine line between living and moving on.  How does one say goodbye to all those that they hold dear?  How do you say goodbye when you are only 17-years-old?  With only months to live, Zach Sobiech, of Lakeland, Minnesota, chose to embrace each and every day with hope and joy, and use music as his means to say goodbye to his family and friends.

It was three years ago, when he was 14, that he was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, called osteosarcoma.  He’s endured and fought since his diagnosis, battling through several surgeries and months of chemotherapy.  In May of 2012, however, he got the tragic news that his cancer had spread to his pelvis and lungs.  At this point there was no known effective treatment left, and he was given months to live.  Below his YouTube video it reads, “ As Zach fights to live, he remains the same joyful soul he has always been.  He still smiles as brightly as he did before cancer – it just means more now.”

In the spirit of hope and joy that he embraces, it is an honor to showcase Lakeland, Minnesota’s own, Zach Sobiech, with his song, “Clouds.”  The talented musician mans the vocals and acoustic guitar, with John Lynn (piano), Zach Miller (drums), Sean O’Hea (bass), and Matt Vannelli (guitar).  The video below is a Wooly Rhino Production, at KS95 in the Twin Cities, filmed and edited by Mike Rominski, with tracking engineer Merritt Benton, and special thanks to Dan Seeman (VP/General Manager KS95) and Karl Demer (Atomic K Records and Production).

The song and accompanying video are beyond moving and powerful.  He is a young man of great courage and strength, with incredible musical talent.  Goodbyes are never easy.  The gift of music that he is giving his family and friends will live on, forever.

CLOUDS LYRICS

Well I fell down, down, down
Into this dark and lonely hole
There was no one there to care about me anymore
And I needed a way to climb and grab a hold of the edge
You were sitting there holding a rope

And we’ll go up, up, up
But I’ll fly a little higher
We’ll go up in the clouds because the view is a little nicer
Up here my dear
It won’t be long now, it won’t be long now

When I get back on land
Well I’ll never get my chance
Be ready to live and it’ll be ripped right out of my hands
Maybe someday we’ll take a little ride
We’ll go up, up, up and everything will be just fine

And we’ll go up, up, up
But I’ll fly a little higher
We’ll go up in the clouds because the view is a little nicer
Up here my dear

It won’t be long now, it won’t be long now
If only I had a little bit more time
If only I had a little bit more time with you

We could go up, up, up
And take that little ride
And sit there holding hands
And everything would be just right
And maybe someday I’ll see you again
We’ll float up in the clouds and we’ll never see the end

And we’ll go up, up, up
But I’ll fly a little higher
We’ll go up in the clouds because the view is a little nicer
Up here my dear
It won’t be long now, it won’t be long now
