Today’s “Featured Artist and Song of the Day” showcases Sydney, Australia’s own, We Are The Birdcage, with their song, “Up & Leave,” which they released as a single, through Source Music.  The video was a A Lion Says Roar production, directed by Javed Sterritt.  We Are The Birdcage have since released an EP, Little Father Time.  The song, “Two Left Feet,” off that EP, will soon be featured in a future article of The Troubadour’s Road.

The folk duo consists of the talented singer/songwriters Amanda.K and Matthew C. Destry.  Their songs are their stories, looking at life and all its wonders.  The acoustic music of the pair is coupled with sweet harmonies, and lyrics themed of love, loss, and the hope.  The duo will be one to follow as they continue down the troubadour’s road.

These words find their place in the song, “Up & Leave,”

“I was there when you tried to escape
Shoes kicking off the dust in your wake
But you slowed down, when you got round the bend
After that I didn’t know what to do
Seemed to make a man out of you, in this small town
Got a hold in the end

And while you’re soaring paper planes
I’ve got my feet on the ground
Stuck here folding paper cranes

So hold my hand, won’t you hold my heart
Stay with me, stay with me through the hardest part
Cause everyone wants to up and leave this place someday
Until then, hold my hand, hold my heart…”
