Today’s “Featured Artist and Song of the Day” showcases Burlington, Ontario’s own, Walk Off The Earth, with their cover of the Gotye song, “Somebody I Used To Know.”  The talented group of musicians is comprised of Ryan Marshall (guitar, vocals), Sarah Blackwood (guitar, vocals), Gianni Nicassio (bass, vocals), Mike Taylor (keys, vocals), and Joel Cassady (drums).  They are true artists, and sway from the norm, as they have had no help from record labels, managers, booking agents or publicists.

Their success stems from their loyal following of fans, and has gone crazy with the release of this video, which has gone viral.  The video was released on January 5, 2012, Russell Crowe tweeted about it, and now it currently has 12,970,468 views on YouTube, and I’m sure will escalate from there.

You will have that, however, when you combine stellar musicians, one guitar between the five of them, great vocals, and a sweet idea for a video.  And how about Mike Taylor on the far right?  Simply awesome.  This is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen.  They’ll be a staple on The Troubadour’s Road, and will be a group to continue to follow as they blaze down their musical path.

These words begin the song, “Somebody I Used To Know,”

“Now and then I think of when we were together
Like when you said you felt so happy you could die
Told myself that you were right for me
But felt so lonely in your company
But that was love and it’s an ache I still remember

You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness
Like resignation to the end, always the end
So when we found that we could not make sense
Well you said that we would still be friends
But I’ll admit that I was glad that it was over

But you didn’t have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing
And I don’t even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough
No you didn’t have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records and then change your number
I guess that I don’t need that though
Now you’re just somebody that I used to know

Now you’re just somebody that I used to know
Now you’re just somebody that I used to know…”

For updates, tour dates, and other news click on their website, you can buy their music on iTunes, and can follow them on their Facebook Page.  When any of their tour dates are made available The Troubadour’s Road will be sure to publish them.  The US awaits a stop.  Until the next show, or until the next time you’ll be able to listen to them, here is Walk Off The Earth, with their song, “Somebody I Used To Know,” enjoy,
