Today’s “Featured Artist and Song of the Day” showcases Washington, DC, based, Vandaveer, with their song, “Dig Down Deep,” off their album, Dig Down Deep, which was released last year at this time, through Supply and Demand. The accompanying video was directed by Pierre Dejon & Just Philippot. The album is their most recent, with Grace & Speed (2007), Divide & Conquer (2009), and A Minor Spell EP (2010), coming before. The group is comprised of the talented Mark Charles Heidinger and Rose Guerin, along with many other musicians, by names of Duane Lundy, Justin Craig and Robby Cosenza, to name a few.
The song today, however, is a glimpse at their most recent album, with a look to what they are currently working on. Vandaveer has embarked on a Pledge Music fundraiser to fund their new project, an album they’ve titled, Oh Willie Please, which is a collection of traditional murder ballads and love-gone-awful-wrong tunes, done Vandaveer style. The project has J. TOm Hnatow, of These United States, on dobro guitar, piano, pedal steel and acoustic guitars, and has Phillips Sayor, of Stripmall Ballads, on banjo and acoustic guitar. The project is also being documented visually, in various forms, by Kurt Gohde and Sarah Law.
The launch was on April 17th, and has had an outpouring of support, for currently it is 96% funded, with 51 days remaining, and hopefully that support will continue to grow, for 10% of every dollar over their target goes to The Center For Women & Families, an outstanding charity providing critical assistance and resources to victims of domestic abuse in the greater Louisville, KY area.
