‘Featured Artist,’ The Whiskey Farm, “If I Were You”

Today’s “Featured Artist and Song of the Day” showcases Madison, Wisconsin’s own, The Whiskey Farm, with their song, “If I Were You,” off their album, Middle of America, which they performed on The Urban Theater.  The Midwest crew is comprised of Jason Horowitz (guitar, vocals, harmonica), Brett Wilfrid (mandolin, guitar, vocals), Clark Stacer (bass, vocals), Matt Brown (drums), Jen Wilfrid (vocals, percussion), and Chantelle Thomas (vocals).  Also, according to their sources, band members have additional roles/attributes:  Horowitz (quick feet), Brett Wilfrid (fresh eggs), Stacer (geekery), Brown (awesomeness), Jen Wilfrid (interpretive dance), and Thomas (goddess-like sex appeal).  Those make for some pretty great combinations.

In early June, the band was awarded their first Madison Area Music Association award for best Americana/folk song, for today’s featured song, and one can be sure it is just the beginning of what is to come.  The Whiskey Farm is growing something special, and will be one to continue to follow as they travel down the troubadour’s road.

The band is set to play the North Branch Music Festival this weekend, on July 7th, and will play the Art Fair on the Square, July 15th.  Be sure to check them out.  Colorado looks forward to a hopeful stop out here.

These words find their place in the song, “If I Were You,”

“If I were you I’d answer my letters
If I were you I’d pick up the phone
If I were you I’d try to make this better
If I were you I’d come back home

If I were you I’d head for the mountains
Far away from the city lights
Find a spot where your heart can’t hear nothin’
And let it fly into the night

This wasn’t what we planned, no
I guess you did what you had to do
And maybe I’d understand
If I were you

If I were you I’d call up your mother
She always knew just what to say
Ask her if I deserve another
Chance to make you want to stay

This wasn’t what we planned, no
I guess you did what you had to do
And maybe I’d understand
If I were you

If I were you I’d answer my letters
If I were you I’d pick up the phone
If I were you I’d try to make this better
If I were you I’d come back home…”
