Today’s “Featured Artist and Song of the Day” showcases Denver, Colorado’s own, The Lumineers, with their song, “Ho Hey,”  off their self-titled album, which was released April 3rd, through Dualtone Records.  The album was the combination of 4 years of writing, 3 years of home recording, and 2 EP’s that were later re-recorded in a professional studio.  The result is the incredible album, The Lumineers, which is one of the best thus far in 2012, and has made waves throughout the country.

The Troubadour’s Road featured their song, “Flowers In Your Hair,” on February 24th, in anticipation of the album, and knew from the first listen that all their music needed was listeners, and that music fans would take it from there, and they did just that.  After the album was released, it raced up music charts (it is currently the #5 Folk Album on the Billboard Charts), music venues near and far began to quickly sell out, music festivals looked to get them in their line-ups, and they booked a date at the famed, Red Rocks Amphitheater, July 28th, to name but a few of their accomplishments so far.  That is one amazing month.

The talented trio consists of Wesley Schultz ( Lead Vocals, Guitar, Piano), Jeremiah Fraites (Drums, Yells), and Neyla Pekarek (Cello, Piano).  Like I said a month ago, “…2012 looks more than bright for The Lumineers.  The best advice is to jump in the back of the truck and go along for the ride, for they’re bound for somewhere special.  Let the wind rage through your hair and embrace the sights and sounds as they take a drive down the troubadour’s road.”

These words find their place in the beginning of the song, “Ho Hey,”

“I’VE BEEN TRYING TO DO IT RIGHT
I’VE BEEN LIVING A LONELY LIFE
I’VE BEEN SLEEPING HERE INSTEAD
I’VE BEEN SLEEPING IN MY BED,
I’VE BEEN SLEEPING IN MY BED

SO SHOW ME FAMILY
ALL THE BLOOD THAT I WILL BLEED
I DUNNO WHERE I BELONG
I DUNNO WHERE I WENT WRONG,
BUT I CAN WRITE A SONG

(CHORUS)
I BELONG WITH YOU, YOU BELONG WITH ME
YOU’RE MY SWEETHEART
I BELONG WITH YOU, YOU BELONG WITH ME
YOU’RE MY SWEET…”
