Today’s “Featured Artist and Song of the Day” showcases the talented band, Sea Wolf, with their song, “Middle Distance Runner,” off their album, Leaves In The River, through Dangerbird Records. The group is led by Alex Brown Church, accompanied by Lisa Fendelander (keyboards), Joey Ficken (drums), Theodore Liscinski (bass), Joyce Lee (cello) and Nathan ‘Jr’ Anderson (electric guitar). The band got its name from the Jack London book, written in 1904, about his a sea adventure.
On music, Brown has said, “Every time you make a record,” he said, “You invariably think, ‘Oh, I wish I’d done this differently,’ or ‘Next time I want to do this.’ But if you get to the point where you don’t think that, then it’s time to quit. In terms of aspirations, as long as I’m constantly having new ideas and finding new places to explore with the music, I’ll be satisfied.” Well, those ideas and places are there to explore, for recent posts by Brown indicate that a lot of work is being done writing songs and doing demos. I, along with other Sea Wolf fans, await the release of the band’s new work. They are definitely a group to continue to follow as they travel down the troubadour’s road.
These words find their place in their song, “Middle Distance Runner,”
“So won’t you run to me tonight?
Tonight let’s not talk about next summer
Cause I’ll only ever be a middle distance runner
Well I’m so proud tonight
Of the woman you’ve become
And I’m just too tired to fight
So my darling, I’ll succumb
But you’ll have to run to me tonight
Tonight I will love you forever
But I’ll only ever be a middle distance runner)…”
