Today’s “Featured Artist and Song of the Day” showcases Reykjavík, Iceland’s own, Of Monsters and Men with their song, “Mountain Sound,” off their album, My Head Is an Animal, which was released in early April, through Universal Republic Records.  The song follows up their hit, “Little Talks,” which has taken the world by storm, with close to 24 million views on YouTube.  The video was shot at Hljomskalagardurinn, in Reykjavik, on July 7, 2012, and released early this September.

The talented six-piece band consists of Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir (vocals, guitar), Ragnar þórhallsson (vocals, guitar), Brynjar Leifsson (guitar), Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson (drums), Kristján Páll Kristjánsson (bass), andÁrni Guðjónsson (piano, accordion).

From The Troubadour’s Road article on November 14, 2011, “I have a feeling that Of Monsters and Men will be on the world’s radar very soon, and will be a band to continue to follow as they venture down their musical road.”  They are now heard throughout the world, and should be, for their music truly needs to be heard.

Of Monsters and Men are set for a huge world tour, which kicks off in their native Iceland, at the Iceland Airwaves Festival, at the end of October, then head to Canada, the US, Australia, and then Europe.  Be sure to check out their tour dates, and get to a show.  They’ll be here in Colorado, at Channel 93.3′s Not So Silent Night, December 13, 2012.

These words find their place at the start of the song, “Mountain Sound,”

“I heard them calling in the distance
So I packed my things and ran
Far away from all the trouble
I had caused with my two hands

Alone we traveled on
With nothing but a shadow
We fled, far away

[Chorus]
Hold your horses now
(Sleep until the sun goes down)
Through the woods we ran
(Deep into the mountain sound)
Hold your horses now
(Sleep until the sun goes down)
Through the woods we ran…”
