Today’s “Featured Artist and Song of the Day” showcases Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s own, Good Old War, with  their song, “Amazing Eyes,” off their album, Come Back As Rain, through Sargent House, which was released on March 6, 2012.  This is the band’s third full-length album, and was recorded last spring in the studio of Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes and Cursive), in Omaha, Nebraska.  The record was produced by Jason Cupp.  The trio consists of the talented:  Keith Goodwin, Dan Schwartz, and Tim Arnold.

Good Old War is currently on one of the best concert tours of the summer, The Outlaw Roadshow, presented by one of the best music blogs in the country, Ryan’s Smashing Life, and The Counting Crows, who are the headliners, with other supporting acts, Foreign Fields and Filligar.  They play Cain Park, in Cleveland, Ohio, tonight, and then continue on with the first leg of this tour, which run until July 1.    The second leg of the tour, featuring The Counting Crows, We Are Augustines, Field Report, and Kasey Anderson and the Honkies, starts up July 17, and runs through August 11.  Be sure to check out tour dates for a venue near you, for line-ups like these don’t come around very often.  Colorado stop: Red Rocks Amphitheatre, August 2nd.

Good Old War’s album, Come Back As Rain, is one of the best albums of 2012.  There aren’t many albums where you simply hit “play,” sit back, and let it finish.  This, however, is one of those albums.  They’ll be a group to continue to follow as they make their way down the troubadour’s road.

These words find their place in the song, “Amazing Eyes,”

“You have amazing eyes
The right one suspicious and the left one wants my love
I don’t care what you think I’ve done
I know I never meant no harm to anyone
I know I never meant no harm, at all

Is this wrong or only half right?
I won’t be gone, but I’ll stay the night
When I see you in the half life
I feel so fine
Everybody seems to wonder why
I go back to you every time
but I don’t mind, I don’t mind

‘Cause you have amazing eyes
The right one suspicious and the left one wants my love
I don’t care what you think I’ve done
I know I never meant no harm to anyone…”
