Today’s “Featured Artist and Song of the Day” showcases New York City’s own, Fun. (featuring Janelle Monae), with their song, “We Are Young,” off their album, Some Nights, which was released on February 21, 2012, through Fueled By Ramen and Nettwerk Records. The band is comprised of Nate Ruess (lead vocals), Jack Antonoff (guitar, trumpet), and Andrew Dost (multi-instrumentalist). Ruess, was formerly in the The Format, Dost in Anathallo, and Antonoff in Steel Train. They released their debut album, Aim and Ignite, in 2009, and followed it up with the recent release of Some Nights.
It is no surprise the song has reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, reached #1 on iTunes, and that it currently has 10,012,856 views on YouTube, for this song is incredible. 2012 is off to a great start for the trio, and they’ll be a band to continue to follow as they take on their musical journey.
Fun. is currently on a huge US Tour with many dates throughout the country. Be sure to check out a live-show, and to get tickets fast, for many of the dates are already sold out.
These words find their place in the song, “We Are Young,”
“Give me a second I,
I need to get my story straight
My friend’s are in the bathroom getting higher than the empire state
My lover she is waiting for me just across the bar
My seat’s been taken by some sunglasses asking about a scar, and
I know I gave it to you months ago
I know you’re trying to forget
But between the drinks and subtle things
Though holes in my apologies
I’m trying hard to take it back
So if by the time the bar closes
And you feel like falling down
I’ll carry you home
Tonight
We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun…”
