Today’s “Featured Artist and Song of the Day” showcases the English, singer/songwriter, Ben Howard, with his song, “Keep Your Head Up,” off his debut album, Every Kingdom, through Island Records. The album was released on September, 31, 2011. Howard, born in Devon, in the UK, is accompanied by the talented musicians, Chris Bond (Bass/Drums), and India Bourne (Cello). The song’s video was produced by Mickey Smith and Owen Tozer.
This will be the first of many of Howard’s songs to be featured, for it was hard to pick just one, as “Old Pine,” “The Wolves,” and “The Fear,” also caught my ear. A true compliment to an album is when you simply hit “Play” to start the first track and nothing is done until the finish of the last song. Such is the case with Howard’s, Every Kingdom. It’s an incredible debut, and The Troubadour’s Road intends to continue to follow him as he continues his musical journey.
These words find there place in his song, “Keep Your Head Up,”
“I spent my time, watching
The spaces that have grown between us.
And I cut my mind on second best,
Oh the scars that come with the greenness.
And I gave my eyes to the boredom,
Still the seabed wouldn’t let me in.
And I try my best to embrace the darkness
In which I swim.
Now walking back, down this mountain,
The strength of a turnin’ tide.
Oh the wind so soft, at my skin,
Yeah the sun so hot upon my side.
Oh lookin’ out at this happiness
I searched for between the sheets,
Oh feelin’ blind, to realize,
All I was searchin’ for… was me.
Oh oh-oh, all I was searchin’ for was me..…”
