Today’s “Featured Artist and Song of the Day” showcases now Denver-based, Andy Palmer, of Grub Street Writer, with the song, “Grrr,” off the album, Sometime Around, which was released independently, on September 23, 2011.  Palmer performs solo, but now puts a majority of time and energy into his band, Grub Street Writer, for which he lends lead vocals, guitar and harmonica.  He is accompanied in the band by talented guitarist, Dan Kern, who also provides backing vocals.

Palmer has since released a 3 song EP, On the Road to Crazy, last month, and just recorded another EP, consisting of 4 songs, with Los Angeles producer/engineer, Warren Huart, who has worked with Aerosmith, The Fray, and Better than Ezra.  The EP is set to be released sometime this year.  His band, Grub Street Writer, is also set to showcase at this year’s SXSW in March.

The featured song/video is one of the most powerful I’ve heard and seen in some time.  The song was written by Palmer, and performed by Palmer and friends.  The video was directed by Christian G. Marra; animation was taken care of by Christian G. Marra and Christinia Fumagalli, and the editing and post production work was done by Francesco Brunotti.  A combination like this is truly unique, is such a  rarity, and shows the amazing talent of two different art forms.  The insane number of quality drawings came together to depict a perfect picture and visual representation of Palmer’s lyrics.

As for Palmer, the first thought is his vocals, and I will not make any comparisons, as others have done.  I will, however, predict that in due time, singer/songwriters will be, and hope to be, compared to him.  His howl and words will take him wherever he needs to go, and he’ll be one to continue to follow as he prowls down the troubadour’s road.

These words begin the song, “Grrr,”

“See you in awhile
I should be back quick
Assuming there’s no trouble
Got a knack finding it
They locked me up in Sicily
Last time I was there
Took a week to pick the lock
With a lock of your hair
I washed up on the shores
Of the Grecian isles
Put away your picture
Back to the daily grind
Don’t worry about me
As I take on the world
I only mean the best
When I Grrr…”

For updates, tour dates, and other news click on his website, you can get his music on iTunes, and follow him on his Facebook Page.   Until the next time you’ll be able to see him or his band, Grub Street Writer, or until the next time you’ll be able to listen to them, here is Andy Palmer of Grub Street Writer, with the song, “Grrr,” enjoy,
