Today’s “Featured Artist and Song of the Day” showcases North London, England’s own, Rod Stewart, with his song, “Forever Young,” off his album, The Definitive Rod Stewart, through Warner Music.  Stewart is a music legend and icon, and his song is a great tribute to all the Fathers out there, on this Father’s Day.

My Dad always played music when my my brothers and I were growing up.  MTV, when they actually played music videos, was always on, he would crank the volume in his car to songs he dug, and he even was a DJ, as he had started a company called, “Tunes.”  I was either 4 or 5 years-old when I made my Tunes debut, singing along to Bruce Springsteen’s, “Born in the USA,” at one of his gigs.  He loves ZZ Top’s, “Sharp Dressed Man,” and did his best to try to convince all of us to sing it at school talent shows.  It’s his go-to song, and follows one of his motto’s, “to look sharp when you need to.”

His car was the place for sing-alongs, and the dash was forever dented due to drum solos.  There was, however, a time of silence, and a time of listening when “Forever Young” came on the radio.  He’d say, “Alright guys, you have to listen to these words.  This is my song  for you guys.  The words are important, and make sure to always remember them.”  One couldn’t ask for a better song, for it truly is a gift.  I thank him for that.  I’ll never forget the words.  Happy Father’s Day, Pops.

Here are those words for the song “Forever Young,”

“May the good lord be with you
Down every road you roam
And may sunshine and happiness
Surround you when you’re far from home
And may you grow to be proud
Dignified and true
And do unto others
As you’d have done to you
Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you’ll always stay
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young

May good fortune be with you
May your guiding light be strong
Build a stairway to heaven
With a prince or a vagabond

And may you never love in vain
And in my heart you’ll always remain
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young
Forever young
Forever young

And when you finally fly away
I’ll be hoping that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime
No one can ever tell

But whatever road you choose
I’m right behind you, win or lose
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young
For, forever young, forever young…”
